Qualifications, Experience & Ability

  • Elementary Teacher
    • Minimum Qualifications
      - Bachelor of Education Degree, and;
      - Elementary Endorsement, or a minimum of 3 years teaching in an Elementary setting, or deemed qualified by the Teacher Qualifications Chart.

    • Minimum Ability
      Predominantly demonstrated through the interview process, the candidate will be assessed on their ability to effectively deal with situations that are likely to arise. External applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70%.

Notes:
The Summer Day Camp (Summer Literacy Camp) Teacher facilitates literacy programming for participants in lower elementary, grades primary to grade two. Teachers will be responsible for a morning block of instruction, instructing for 90 minutes per day during a scheduled time. The teacher training (mandatory) will be 3 days: one asynchronous day and two in-person days on July 3rd and 4th in Halifax. The camp runs from July 21st to August 15th. Teachers will also have two required planning days just prior to camp start.

Additional Assets:
Experience teaching grades Primary to Two, early literacy instruction with a focus on using assessment to guide small group instruction.
Experience teaching at Summer Literacy Camp.
Knowledge and experience in applying technologies to enhance instruction and learning.
Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies.
Excellent communication skills (written, oral, electronic), problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate with Summer Literacy staff.
