HDR is seeking a Senior Remediation Lead with 10+ years of experience. The successful candidate will be based in one of HDR’s Western Canada offices in Saskatoon or Calgary. This individual will support our ongoing remediation and restoration project workload including public and private environmental due diligence, contaminated site investigation and assessment, and remediation planning/design projects for mining, rail, industrial, oil and gas and municipal waste clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project management including direction of junior staff, providing technical review and oversight and mentoring.
  • Leading report preparation (due diligence, remedial investigations, contaminated materials management plans, feasibility studies, etc.)
  • Coordination of remediation engineering staff within Canada and with other HDR remedial engineering centers in the US.
  • Work on diverse remedial engineering projects with a wide range of contaminants (VOCs/SVOCs/metals/PCBs/Pesticides/NAPL/PFAS) in all types of media.
  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of environmental multi-discipline projects, such as soil, wastewater, groundwater, sediment, modeling, feasibility studies, and designs. Experience managing a diverse array of investigation and remediation projects is a plus.
  • Lead, manage, and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Lead and manage client relationships and be involved with marketing and business development.
  • Lead proposal development, including strategic planning and proposal scope and fee generation, and contract negotiations.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through the life-cycle of projects from project development to project completion and project closeout.
  • Work with the Business/Accounting Manager, Project Controller or Company Controller and Department Manager for project reviews.
  • Champion Health and Safety values and culture.
  • Implement corporate QA/QC procedures.
  • Data-based computer skills, excellent written and oral communication, and a good understanding of working with Provincial and Federal government agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, Geology, Geosciences, Hydrogeology, applicable Engineering, or closely related field.
  • P.Eng or P.Geo. or similar designation.
  • WHIMIS certification.
  • Previous experience working and managing environmental remediation projects for government agencies and private companies in Western Canada.
  • Minimum of 10 years of contaminated site investigation and management, remediation, and/or restoration project management experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of multi-media site investigations, modeling, and design with a minimum of 10 years leading technical tasks.
  • Must have the ability to work autonomously on scope and fee development.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and provincial environmental regulations (specifically British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan).
  • Requires ability to travel up to 20% annually.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 10 years related experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, project management software.
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
