Job description

Our company is seeking a full-time Controller with 5+ years of residential and commercial development / construction accounting experience, responsible for preparing company financial statements, monthly project draws and cashflows, GL, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, and other analyses.

This is a remote position with on-site availability as needed, which offers a competitive compensation package that includes benefits.

Reporting to the General Manager and Director of Operations, this role will be responsible for :

  • Prepare financial analysis and reports to support senior leaders' decision-making.
  • Monitor AP / AR / GL & Bank on continuous basis.
  • Troubleshoot payables & receivables issues at the recording or financial level.
  • Approve invoices related to commissions and financing costs and ensuring invoicing and budgets are tracked.
  • Coordinate accounting, budgeting, tax, and other financial operations to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Report to the General Manager and Director of Operations on all activities related to control and reporting for all development processes, and interface with all internal divisions of the company and partners' senior management within the organization.
  • Implement internal controls, oversee functions for all accounting roles, conduct performance reviews, define role job descriptions and SOPs, and ensure cross-training.
  • Assist the General Manager and Director of Operations in preparing budgets, cash flows, and financial reports required for development projects.
  • Develop project projections, cash flows, and proformas.
  • Perform additional assignments as per senior leadership direction.

The successful candidate will have :

  • A four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of service in either commercial / residential development and / or construction GC or Subtrade experience.
  • Superior knowledge of accounting practices as applied to real estate development, property management, cash flow forecasting, consolidated financial statements, management reporting, and taxes.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage people and organizational planning and capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines and company goals.
  • Ability to multitask in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to support computer systems and keep up with software technology in the construction and development industry.
  • In-depth experience with Excel and other financial monitoring and accounting software.
