Position Information Position Number P00224 Position Title Vocational Instructor - English, Math and Science (On-Call) Division / Portfolio Arts and Foundational Programs Department / Program Adult Upgrading Location Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm Other Flexible Work Options Your Opportunity The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include instructional and professional duties, professional development and service, and continuing excellence in one’s field. Functions and Duties Instructional duties may include any or all of the following : instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.

Professional duties may include any or all of the following : curriculum development, student registration and pre registration duties.

Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Service may include any or all of the following : school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties. Education and Experience 1. A Bachelor’s Degree with a major in the subject area or equivalent education and three years’ teaching experience related to the area of the appointment.

2. A valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment, equivalent or a Provincial Instructor Diploma is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.Three years’ related teaching experience, preferably in an adult setting. Skills and Abilities Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline. The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty. Preferred Qualifications The Department of Adult Upgrading is seeking Substitute Vocational Instructors to teach Fundamental to Provincial level English, Mathematics and Science at the Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm and Penticton Campuses. Desired Start Date 09 / 04 / 2024 Position End Date (if temporary) Schedule On-call Annual Salary / Hourly Rate Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 annually; normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
