School District 71 - Outdoor Learning Teacher (Temporary, 0.60 FTE)

School District 71 is an inclusive learning community that embraces diversity, fosters relationships, and empowers all learners to positively impact the world. Position Details:

  • 0.60 FTE Grades 5-9 Blended Learning HLC Teacher - Outdoor Learning
  • Location: Sooke, BC (face-to-face instruction required)
  • Note: This temporary position is contingent upon enrollment.

The Heartwood Learning Communities (HLC) support students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 through blended learning programs. Teachers support multi-grade classes with diverse needs, with face-to-face instruction up to 2.5 days per week. During home learning days, educators support families via multiple platforms, collaborate with colleagues, and plan engaging activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Training, certification, or experience in online or blended learning in British Columbia
  • Experience with place-based and experiential outdoor learning
  • Standard First Aid (Wilderness First Aid is an asset)
  • Outdoor leadership skills
  • Experience in curriculum integration, project-based learning, and personalization in multi-grade classrooms
  • Ability to create online learning resources (e.g., Desire2Learn, Google Classroom)
  • Proficiency with e-portfolios (Seesaw), blogs, websites, and assessment practices
  • Ability to develop parent workshops and co-facilitate student learning
  • Experience coordinating community-based programs
