Job Description : Reporting to the Manager of the Nursing Unit, the Resident Care Coordinator (RCC) is responsible for ensuring the highest standard of care and service is provided on the Nursing Unit. As an experienced practitioner, the Resident Care Coordinator acts in a leadership role to provide specialized clinical expertise, co-ordination of resident care, and support and teaching to the care team (including residents and residents' families) within a collaborative environment. The incumbent must be able to multitask and be physically able to respond quickly to emergent situations, as he / she is the immediate supervisor on the unit. The routine procedures are generally predetermined but critical thinking and independent judgment is an integral part of the position.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Experience

  • Current knowledge and a minimum of three (3) years recent experience in long term care nursing within a team environment is required.

Licenses

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

  • Demonstrated ability to physically perform all duties required in provision of care to dependent adult patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal / consultative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate the implementation, evaluation, and ongoing design of the current client centered care model.
  • An understanding of what creates a collaborative working relationship among all staff and a demonstrated willingness to implement / support that type of working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, ability to problem solve, utilization of conflict resolution skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent knowledge of the long-term care needs of adults and their families, and a practical application of a broad range of clinical interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and promote staff receptivity to the importance of continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and implement change.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of initiative and ability to work independently.

Other Education and Training

  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable

  • Registered / eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) and / or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS).
