City Experiences is seeking a Barista for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.

Please note this is a seasonal/contract position.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Barista will provide an amazing experience for their guests by preparing tasteful beverages, serving ice cream, keeping a clean workspace and assisting Dockside restaurant with hot beverage service. The Ice cream shop crew is knowledgeable about the City Cruises Gananoque vessel operating schedule, the 1000 Islands and public amenities. The successful candidate will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience through exceptional care for food & beverage, being respectful of decisions made by direct supervisors, being favorably viewed by their peers, and being swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Report to work on time and for all scheduled shifts, clocking in and out appropriately, while managing personal break time.
  • Understand and follow all policies and procedures relating to the crew’s role within the company.
  • Maintain uniform in conjunction with a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Be responsible for brewing coffee, scooping ice cream, and selling a selection of bakery items.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of coffee and ice cream flavours to educate guests and colleagues about the selection.
  • Accurately take orders and diligently punch correct items for sale into the Point-of-Sale system, followed by serving the correct item.
  • Possess basic math skills and be capable of managing notes and cash handling.
  • Speak and interact with both new and regular customers, contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized working environment, following all health and safety guidelines, including daily & weekly checklists.
  • Regularly perform stock checks and submit inventory count twice a week to ensure the Kitchen Supervisor has proper inventory levels for reordering.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • One (1) year customer service experience is preferred.
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate is preferred.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, service-oriented, and self-directed personality essential.
  • Basic math and computer skills required.
  • Ability to be closely supervised and accept all training and guidance on a continuous basis, while passing along best practices and techniques to fellow crew members.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.
  • The nature of the work may be strenuous. Will work for extended periods of time in any weather condition without sitting.
  • Required to lift furniture and other heavy items such as tables and chairs, up and down stairs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Availability for work on all weekends during July & August, including major holidays.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms).
  • Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
  • If required, wear additional assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e., gloves, weather-appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
