Job description

Irving Shipbuilding - Pipefitter (Journeyperson)

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Pipefitter - Journeyperson for current opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Education Required: Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
  • Trade Certification: Pipefitter trade certification
  • Experience: 5-8+ years of verifiable marine or industrial pipefitting experience
  • Experience working in marine/industrial industry is considered an asset
  • Certificates: WHMIS certificate

All successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret marine or industrial blueprints, pipe detail arrangement drawings, and work from standard and metric specifications
  • Layout, fabricate, and fit up pipe assemblies including fittings, flanges, and valves using various tools and equipment
  • Work with various pipe materials such as carbon steel, copper-nickel, and stainless steel, along with appropriate valves and fittings
  • Instruct and mentor apprentices
  • Ensure eligibility to work in Canada
  • Complete a pre-employment physical
  • Undergo a background check
  • Physical Effort and Work Conditions: Candidates will work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces and inclement weather. Extended hours and overtime may be required. Work may be indoors or outdoors. Candidates should be able to handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, with occasional lifting of heavier items.
