Job description

Teacher – 1.0 FTE

Location: Mountview Elementary School

Commencing August 25, 2025

The primary responsibilities of this position include providing a space for students to regulate on a short or longer-term basis, as required by each individual student. The teacher will use purposeful activities to teach social skills, reduce anxiety, and assist students in feeling a sense of belonging, connection, and preparedness for learning. The philosophy of the Student Support Room is based on a proactive stance.

Required Skills

1. Exemplary relational skills with both students and other adults in the school
2. Exemplary communication skills
3. Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices
4. A minimum of five years of teaching experience; a combination of teaching and other experience working with children and youth will also be considered
5. Experience teaching students with complex social-emotional and behavioral challenges
6. A solution-focused, strength-based outlook
7. The ability to remain calm amidst stressful situations
