Job description

Job Summary:

Working in the Environmental Affairs Program offers a unique opportunity to positively impact our environment. Situated between two lakes, the scenic University of Wisconsin-Madison campus hosts a variety of activities that can affect the natural surroundings. As an Environmental Affairs Specialist, you will evaluate environmental impacts, oversee regulatory compliance, and help mitigate effects on natural resources.

This position involves environmental permitting, permit administration, stakeholder outreach, advising internal stakeholders, documentation, and demonstrating compliance to agencies and stakeholders. It offers the chance to work with subject matter experts in a dynamic environment at a world-class research and educational institution.

Responsibilities include preparing regulatory documentation, identifying environmental risks, assessing and resolving technical issues, developing university policies, and representing the university before regulatory agencies and engineers. Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills are essential.

About the Division of FP&M and Department of EH&S:

The Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) manages the physical environment of the campus, supporting education, research, and outreach. The Department of Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) provides guidance and technical support in biological, chemical, environmental, engineering, radiation, and fire safety.

Education:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required: At least 3 years of experience in environmental compliance; effective communication skills; ability to interpret environmental data; organizational skills.

Preferred: Over 5 years of experience covering state, federal, and local regulations; knowledge of permits, pollution regulations, and environmental policies; familiarity with remediation processes.

License/Certification:

Preferred: Valid Driver's License meeting UW standards.

Work Type:

Full-time, onsite at designated campus location.

Salary:
