Job Description: Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement in quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate and collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the full scope of practice as defined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to competency guidelines, agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either: (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course; or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal roles.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, colleagues, the multidisciplinary team, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
  • Demonstrated competency to work at the full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
