Job description

Duties:
  • Provide psychological evaluations and risk assessments in a timely manner for court or parole-ordered psychiatric assessments for individuals with severe mental illness who are in conflict with the legal system.
  • Offer individual and team case consultations and training to staff regarding mental health and correctional best practices, along with clinical supervision (group or individual) to allied health staff to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Participate in the development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based correctional programs as part of the Integrated Forensic Program.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and validate evaluation data collection, data dissemination, and report completion.
  • Conduct research activities such as grant proposals, presentations, and publications, and disseminate research findings through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Provide direct and indirect clinical care, including assessments (e.g., diagnostic assessments, therapeutic interventions) and interventions (e.g., group and individual therapy).
  • Work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in academic activities, including supervising pre-doctoral practicum students and residents in psychology, and overseeing the practice of psychology staff.
  • Demonstrate leadership and collaboration skills through participation in program and discipline-specific activities.
  • Commit to continuous quality improvement, evidence-based practices, and teamwork.
  • Maintain professional integrity by adhering to college and hospital guidelines, including the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists, College of Psychologists of Ontario standards, and The Royal’s policies on documentation and workload.
  • Work in accordance with staff and patient safety practices, policies, and procedures at The Royal.
  • Promote a work environment aligned with The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination & Harassment-Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications:
  • Doctorate from a CPA/APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Program.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-PhD clinical mental health experience.
  • Authorized areas of practice in Clinical Psychology and Forensic Psychology; experience with adult populations is mandatory.
  • Additional preferred areas include Clinical Neuropsychology and experience with youth and seniors.
  • Experience in correctional research and program evaluation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation principles, recovery-oriented treatments, and core correctional practices such as the Risk Need Responsivity Model.
  • Competency in delivering evidence-based treatments in individual and group formats.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate within an inter-professional context.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection, with regular input into workload systems.
  • Proficiency in English (oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing) is mandatory; bilingual (French/English) skills are an asset.
