Job description

Our client located in Waterloo, Ontario has an immediate opening for a Mold (Mould) Maker.

The Mold Maker is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining injection molds, tools, and fixtures.

THE MOLD MAKER IS RESPONSIBLE TO:

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and company health & safety policies at all times.
  • Full compliance with company policies, system procedures, rules, and regulations as required.
  • Disassemble molds and examine parts for wear and other defects to prepare molds for storage or in response to a repair request.
  • Determine necessary machine operation and sequence to complete tasks.
  • Set up and operate machine shop equipment (i.e., milling machines, drill presses, lathes, grinders, etc.) to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Fit and assemble component parts into mold cavities and verify dimensions, alignment, and clearance.
  • Duties may require stoning, polishing, or shimming to properly align and mate tooling.
  • Analyze and correct fairly complex mold malfunctions to make acceptable parts that meet print.
  • Make mold parts as per verbal instructions or from drawings.
  • Change molds by adding or deleting core pins, spacers, end blocks, knock out pins, etc.
  • Utilize all hand tools related to mold construction, modification, repair, and conditioning.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to include comparators, height gauges, limit gauges, tool maker microscopes, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Measure overall length of cavity to determine if it is within stated tolerance, checks distance from mounting hole to mounting hole, and may be required to measure areas within the cavity.
  • Set mold cavity at proper extensions beyond mold frame to allow for compression and eliminate flash.
  • Take periodic inventory of changeover and spare tooling on hand.
  • Clean all tooling removed from part change, properly label them, and inventory them in their designated location.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College diploma, high school, or equivalent training.
  • Good understanding of the injection molding process.
  • Basic computer skills.
