Role Overview

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Purchasing Agent is pivotal in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials and services for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in supply chain management, proficiency in Viewpoint, and a strong background in the electrical construction industry.

This position is ideal for applicants local to a Canem branch office on Vancouver Island or in Edmonton, Alberta.

What You Will Be Working On
  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, equipment, and services for projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors for timely delivery and favorable terms.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and schedule.
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance for compliance and necessary changes.
  • Utilize Viewpoint for managing purchase orders and maintaining accurate procurement records.
  • Ensure purchasing activities are recorded in Viewpoint and comply with company policies.
  • Analyze market trends for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Conduct cost analysis and risk reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Assess and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Coordinate with project managers, construction managers, and quality assurance teams on quality issues.
  • Maintain procurement records, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to schedule and forecast material and equipment needs.
  • Manage and maintain supplier relationships, resolving issues and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Create accurate purchase orders and procurement documents.
  • Implement procurement strategies to meet project requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain supplier performance metrics.
  • Assist the Estimating team with RFX packages for proposal pricing.
  • Coordinate and communicate with site teams to ensure procurement needs are met.
What We Are Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with electrical construction materials, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or an electrical trade is preferred.
  • SMT (Supply Management Training) or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) designation is highly desirable or enrollment in the SCMP program is considered an asset.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and track orders.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to handle disputes or issues with suppliers during the procurement process.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, changing environment to maintain the highest standards with respect to quality and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

As per Section 2 of the BC Pay Transparency Act, this position is eligible for a compensation range of $60,000 - $70,000/year.
