Job description

YOU MUST LIVE IN PRINCE GEORGE initially and be willing to travel to other locations in BC after approximately 3 weeks or for local collection.

ATTENTION ALL UBER, TAXI, AND DELIVERY DRIVERS!!!

We are currently working with a major technology company to collect map data across multiple provinces. The collection involves operating vehicles equipped with a roof-mounted sensor, which scans and collects data of the road network and route you follow. After each day, you will transfer the data to an online platform. This data will help develop the next generation of digital maps for mobile applications. Responsibilities include equipment preparation, data collection, simple data processing, and overall equipment management in the field, including installation of hardware according to client guidelines.

We are seeking Vehicle Mapping Operators (responsible for navigation and operation of technical equipment) in Prince George, BC. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, friendly, and safety-conscious. You will work as part of a larger team, driving through public streets, commercial districts, and historic sites, mapping all public roads, highways, and ramps. Some areas may need to be driven multiple times due to weather or lighting conditions. Comfort working long hours (8-10 hours per day) and experience navigating cities, freeways, suburban, and rural areas is required. A working knowledge of GPS and navigation apps is also necessary.

Only selected applicants will be contacted for an interview. Positions are limited; no internships are available. Relocation is not provided.

Mapping Operator Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure daily vehicle operation and safety.
  2. Park and secure vehicles at the end of each day.
  3. Handle equipment, including removing and storing the camera daily.
  4. Maintain the safety and proper storage of equipment.
  5. Perform routine vehicle maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, etc.).
  6. Send data disks to the client via designated platforms; training will be provided.
  7. Communicate daily with an Ops Lead.
  8. Operate vehicles carefully, following traffic rules.
  9. Use navigation software as instructed.
  10. Work effectively within a team.
  11. Follow project rules and instructions from the Project Manager.
  12. Perform daily vehicle and equipment checks, reporting issues.
  13. Be mindful of equipment height and surroundings.
  14. Securely park vehicles and follow security protocols.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of data.
  16. Keep required logs as directed.
  17. Monitor and operate sensor equipment daily.
  18. Follow technical instructions and troubleshoot issues.
  19. Manage time effectively and work well in a team.
  20. Communicate clearly and complete reports as needed.
  21. Lift up to 6.5kg (~15lbs), with bending and twisting as required.
  22. Maintain honest and transparent communication.
Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license permitting driving in the posted location.
  • Preferably 5+ years of driving experience, including 1+ year in the posted country, and 2+ years of professional driving (Uber, Taxi, Delivery).
  • Residence in Prince George for initial collection.
  • Ability to reach the roof of the vehicle and mount equipment using a step ladder.
  • Experience with Android devices, including phones and tablets.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to write clear emails.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful driving situations.
  • Enjoy driving and flexible scheduling.
  • Basic understanding of motor vehicle mechanics.
  • Ability to follow instructions and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Willingness to work long hours in stressful environments.
Desired Skills:
  • General vehicle knowledge.
  • Experience with taller vehicles (e.g., trucks).
  • Familiarity with GPS and smart devices.
  • Dependability and attention to detail.
  • Polite and professional demeanor.

Further Information:
  • Height clearance for parking: 7ft stowed, 9ft with camera raised.
  • Vehicles are stored in a warehouse; once assigned, you will take the vehicle home nightly. Parking must be indoors or in secured, monitored areas.
  • This role involves more than driving, including field tech repairs, vehicle maintenance, and equipment handling.
Timeline:
  • Start immediately. Temporary local work for 2-3 weeks, then approximately 4 months traveling, depending on client needs.
Job Details:
  • Temporary, seasonal contract.
  • Monday-Friday, 8-10 hours daily, 40 hours/week.
  • $25 CAD/hour; overtime per Canadian law.
  • Company vehicle provided.
  • Gas card and reimbursable expenses with receipts.
