Qualifications

Job description

The Project Manager - Telecom Construction is responsible for managing a group of small to medium telecom network capital projects (Primarily Wireless) and delivering them on schedule, scope and budget.

Projects could include; New Tower Construction, Tower Rebuilds, Tower Co-locations, Technology overlays, Fibre Construction, Small Cell Construction, capacity upgrades and general network equipment upgrades

Key responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with marketing, site acquisition, engineering, supply chain, construction, and operations primes to prioritize and schedule project deliverables
• Assist in Xplore’s marketing effort where appropriate and as directed by management
• Assist with the procurement of Fixed Wireless construction materials
• Assess project deployment plan or business case to develop project scope
• Run competitive RFP processes for the selection of Fixed Wireless design and construction contractors
• Assist management in final contract negotiations and in the development of a short list of qualified contractors for future work
• Gather applicable project safety documentation and certificates of insurance prior to project start
• Collaborate with construction implementation teams to identify and balance internal resource allocation
• Ensure contractual obligations of the project are understood and met by all parties
• Plan and organize work to meet project schedule deadlines and financial objectives
• Lead regular meetings with stakeholders on resolving implementation issues and variances, and develop action plans to manage changes or issues on projects
• Conduct project meetings and prepare minutes as required
• Regular reporting and communication on project status and budget
• Provide project status reporting to Program Management team
• Effectively manage change orders on projects
• Manage Request for Information, Change Order Management process and related reporting
• Manage program financials and projects in accordance with corporate financial policies and tools (SAP & QuickBase)
• Review applications for progress payment and approve invoicing in a timely manner
• Track project costs and develop financial reporting
• Manage risk within program and escalate issues where appropriate
• Effective written, verbal and listening communications skills
• Able to perform at a high pace and under pressure
• Good knowledge of wireless telecommunications networks and infrastructure
• Telecommunications construction knowledge
• Able to read & interpret construction contracts & engineered drawings & prepare cost estimates & schedules
• Ability to effectively and appropriately delegate work load, make decisions and manage time effectively

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in project management or build-out of wireless network infrastructure.
• Completion of related post-secondary diploma/degree or equivalent through a combination of education and/or experience.
• Familiarity with database systems (such as salesforce & QuickBase)
• Familiarity with financial management systems (such as SAP)
• Previous experience with Wireless Network deployments
• PMP or equivalent certification or relevant work experience.
