Job description

Utilizing independent judgment, this position will oversee the design, programming, simulation, and testing of automated machinery and processes to enhance reliability and efficiencies. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

GENERAL
  • May assist with training and development of multi-skilled maintenance technicians and automation technicians.
  • Identify safety hazards, involve appropriate manager(s) and/or employees to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties, assignments, and projects as deemed necessary.
ENGINEERING
  • Troubleshoot, modify, or install relay logic, motor control circuits, variable frequency and DC motor drive systems, motor power circuits (120V to 480V 3-phase), and common utility/lighting circuits using proper test equipment and electrical prints.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and troubleshoot control systems, including the design, installation, and implementation of control logic and automation hardware such as PLCs, HMIs, and industrial computer-based systems.
  • Perform installation, setup, calibration, and field fault analysis on analog instrumentation and instrument loops.
  • Support DeviceNet, ControlNet, and Ethernet data communication systems.
  • Determine root causes of equipment failure and develop and implement corrective actions to reduce unscheduled downtime.
  • Maintain calibration and equipment documentation, control distribution of prints and troubleshooting documents, ensuring compliance with governmental and ISO certifications.
  • Assist the Maintenance and Engineering Departments in supporting all plant operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, and bend. Must be able to use hand and fingers, reach with arms and hands, and lift/move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work frequently in extreme weather, exposed to airborne particles, fumes, with a moderately loud noise level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Preferred BSEE or BSEET or equivalent industrial experience and education. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in electrical/electronic repair and automation.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC, HMI, and network software packages.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT for control diagrams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with production team members for process improvements.
  • Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition software and SQL databases is beneficial.
