Responsibilities
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Ensure safety precautions in the assigned area; report unsafe incidents or equipment issues.
- Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pots, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Deliver catering throughout the hospital, including dish collection for ware washing.
- Maintain proper serving temperatures and observe meal service time limits.
- Assist cooks with food prep such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple foods.
- Clear plates and trays, operate dishwashers, and clean utensils and pots as per procedures.
- Participate in proper storage and labeling of food and supplies, including leftovers.
- Monitor and document temperatures and taste, initiate corrective actions, and ensure compliance with HACCP guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
- Set up for catering events, including linens, equipment, and special requests.
- Follow departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchens.
- Attend meetings and in-service education as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health.
- Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads and stand for long periods.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening (within 6 months).
- Experience in kitchen or food service setting.
