THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you ready to take charge of maximizing the profitability of SaskTel’s Business Sales & Solutions (BS&S) portfolio? We are seeking a dedicated Financial Business Manager to lead our Financial Planning & Forecasting efforts. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for all budgeting, financial planning, and meticulous management of revenues and expenses. You will create, monitor, and report on all budgets and forecasts for our business market, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, analysis, and communication of financial results related to projects, capital, and operating expenses. As a strategic advisor, you will provide essential financial insights to leadership for the budget and five-year planning process. Your expertise in developing cohesive forecasts across services and portfolios will be crucial in driving our financial success. Specific Accountabilities
- Responsible for providing strategic financial information to leadership in the development of the budget and five-year strategic financial plan for BS&S.
- Develops and maintains a process to prepare the budget that will reflect the SaskTel Strategic Plan.
- Develops and forecasts the 5-year financial plan for the business portfolio, by processing departmental submissions, and forecasting the expenses.
- Participates in the implementation of new accounting treatment by incorporating the new procedures into the budget/forecast.
- Consults and provides leadership and training to the department to prepare budgets and perform monthly forecasting as a management tool for tracking performance and addressing inefficiencies.
- Creates Revenue and Direct Expense assumptions, budgets, and provides monthly reforecasts and variance analysis for Business portfolio products. Shares budgets and assumptions with Stakeholders and incorporates feedback into the model. Develops drivers in the form of unit forecasts and ARPUs and enters and updates drivers in the forecasting system. Provides revenue, direct expense and unit reports to stakeholders.
- Provides reporting and analysis for variances between actual and budget on BS&S projects, operating and capital results on a monthly basis. Assists management through financial analysis and providing recommendations for improvement. Responsible for anticipating and fulfilling related information requests from within BS&S as well as sources external to the Corporation.
- Ensures revenues are accounted in the proper BSEGs and Lines of Business. Works with Finance to correct errors in revenue tracking. Simplifies revenue tracking (consolidate BSEGs and AIs) and advises Finance on improvements to the forecasting model for the next year. Finds ways to simplify and reduce effort related to forecasting, unit reporting and revenue assurance.
- Identifies where revenue leakage may be occurring in departmental processes. Works with Product Managers to take action to stop the leakage. Monitors for compliance to pricing strategies and flex pricing. Escalates when required to correct.
- Understands industry growth rates and monitors portfolio performance relative to those (market share, volume and ARPU). Works with Market Research to commission Market Share and Pricing studies when appropriate and make recommendations to improve SaskTel’s share.
- Establishes and manages Operating Expense and Capital budgets for the Business Solutions marketing team. Builds business case and executive item to get approval for annual capital budget (CPE Capital).
- Develops and updates Contribution Margin Statements for all products under BS&S including Directwest and SecurTek. Monitors and maximizes product margins. Removes inconsistencies or misallocations in product margin reporting. Understands the break-even points for all active products. Provides analysis and support to Directors and Product Owners on product and contribution margins, variances, and forecasts.
- Provides support for items related to Executive and Board of Directors meetings (e.g., strategic plan, risk review, senior management expenses).
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Business Administration/Commerce or equivalent. A combination of related business experience and education will be considered.
- Financial modeling expertise and experience with financial modeling tools is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills with knowledge of databases, SAP, and PowerBI. Ability to create complex models and analyze data for reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Ability to collaborate with product managers to integrate activities across the organization into financial reporting and forecasts.
- Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to understand and apply financial principles to drive strategic decision-making and improve organizational performance.
- Organized, self-directed with strong analytical and planning ability to manage budgets.
- Foundational Business Market and Product Knowledge to understand industry growth rates and business product portfolio performance well enough to provide accurate forecasts and strategic financial insights.
- Overall knowledge of SaskTel and departmental interrelationships is an asset, including ability to understand the roles of stakeholders within Marketing, Finance, Sales, Operations, Network, Procurement, and IS sufficient to perform the specific accountabilities of this position.
