Job Location : Canada (Hybrid)

About the job you’re considering

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will build distributed data processing solutions and highly loaded database solutions for various business cases including reporting, product analytics, marketing optimization, and financial reporting. You will contribute as part of a self-organized team of experienced data engineers working in a challenging, innovative environment for our client, creating the foundation for decision-making at a company dealing with billions of events per day.

Your role

1. Receive assignments from the project lead or Team Lead (TL), craft functional and design specifications, and get them approved by all collaborators.
2. Ensure that assigned areas are delivered within set deadlines and meet quality objectives.
3. Provide estimations, agree on task durations with the manager, and contribute to the project plan.
4. Analyze the scope of alternative solutions and make implementation decisions based on experience and technical expertise.
5. Lead functional and architectural design of assigned areas, ensuring design decisions meet architectural and design requirements.
6. Address area-level risks, provide and implement mitigation plans.
7. Report on area readiness/quality and raise red flags in crisis situations beyond their Area of Responsibility (AOR).
8. Design, implement, and develop large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models and pipelines for Data Lake and Data Warehouse.
9. Develop and implement data quality checks, conduct QA, and monitor routines to improve reliability and scalability of ETL processes.
10. Initiate and conduct code reviews, establish code standards, conventions, and guidelines.
11. Suggest technical and functional improvements to add customer value.
12. Resolve crisis situations within their AOR.

Skills and experience

• Minimum 8 years of professional experience with at least 5 years in data engineering, business intelligence, or a similar role, proficiency in Java.
• Expertise in Database fundamentals, advanced proficiency in complex SQL, and distributed computing.
• Over 5 years of experience in ETL orchestration and workflow management tools like Airflow, Flink, Oozie, and Azkaban using AWS / GCP.
• Experience with Spark, Snowflake, Databricks, and working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, or other DBMS platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in AWS (EC2 / S3 / IAM).
• Knowledge of reporting tools such as Tableau, Superset, and Looker.
