Position Summary

This role involves teaching students in an assigned field, utilizing various instructional methods and tools. Responsibilities include curriculum development, preparing teaching materials, assessing student progress, and ensuring proper management of college facilities and resources. The role also involves participating in meetings, events, and committees, and adhering to college policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Teach students through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, labs, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, fieldwork, and projects.
  2. Develop curricula and prepare teaching materials, including audio-visual and web-based content.
  3. Administer and grade assessments, providing detailed feedback on student performance.
  4. Support students and prospective students with advising on curricula and career options.
  5. Provide tutorial or remedial support as needed.
  6. Maintain effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, and materials.
  7. Supervise independent or group projects, labs, and field placements.
  8. Follow VCC policies, including confidentiality and student availability.
  9. Participate in departmental and college meetings, and serve on committees related to budgets, curriculum, and program requirements.
  10. Perform other related duties as required.

Area Hiring Criteria

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or RN Diploma with relevant degrees, or a Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing (BSPN) or Psychiatric Nursing Diploma.
  • Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum three years recent nursing practice experience in one of the following specialty areas:

Specialty areas: Gerontology; Acute care; Medical/surgical nursing; Mental health nursing; Maternity/child nursing.

  • Experience in community-based settings, mental health nursing, or specialty courses such as Geriatric/Gerontology or Acute Care nursing is an asset.
  • BC Provincial Instructor’s Diploma or equivalent; candidates in progress must have an expected completion date within three years of hire.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring adult learners in clinical settings.
  • Courses in geriatric nursing or gerontology are assets.
  • Knowledge of the role of Licensed Practical Nurses in healthcare.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
