North America Battery Test Lab is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to develop, supervise fabrication, validate, and deploy high voltage cables and low voltage wiring harnesses for EV battery pack testing; the role is also responsible for instrumentation support in various tests and lab test fixtures development where cabling and wiring is involved. Successful candidate has an opportunity to contribute to a world-class battery lab from the launch stage all the way to the full operation.
Initially the role will be focused on training, documentation and launch of the lab. The role will be required to complete all needed training and follow all lab safety processes and procedures.
The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for creating new or the rework on existing cabling and wiring harness diagrams, drawings, cut sheets and interconnection diagrams; specifying cable and wire types and sizes, supervising the inhouse build and/or outsourced fabrication, validating the cables and wirings, and ensuring they meet functional, quality and safety requirements.
The role needs to collaborate with battery pack test team to ensure all cables, wirings and interface connectors are ready and robust during the test equipment commissioning stage and lab full operation.
Support supervisor on tools and material planning and procurement.
Support supervisor in updating standard operating procedures / guidelines.
Ensure cabling and harness support needs are addressed during installation.
Support the commissioning of any new equipment.
Keep requestors informed on status of all cabling and harness requests.
Employ best practices in all cable and harness builds.
Ensure all cables and harnesses comply with lab safety requirements.
Ensure all cables and harnesses in the highest possible quality standard.
Support root cause analysis and resolution on wiring issues uncovered during testing.
Proactively work to resolve issues
Ensure all training requirements are kept up to date
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in product testing in laboratory or manufacturing environments, cabling and wiring experience is preferred
Capable of using CAD for schematics and wiring harness drawing generation
Experience with high voltage, high power system and cabling; familiar with electrical codes and safety requirements
Hands-on skills for building cables and wiring harnesses
Practical skills of common laboratory tools and instruments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
Legally eligible to work in Canada
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in automotive wiring design and / or manufacturing
Demonstrated ability to work in a unionized environment
Prior experience or knowledge of ISO 17025 or 9001 accreditation
Additional Must Haves:
Electrical/Electronics background, experience in creating electrical diagram
Experience in vehicle wiring harness; knowledge of cable sizing, connectors
Hands-on experience on making and modifying wirings
3 years or more experience
