Who You Are

You have a worked in Human Resources, or a relevant discipline and have experience working in a unionized environment within a healthcare setting. You are committed to the creation and maintenance of a positive working environment and have strong problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiating skills. You have strong communication and relationship building skills with a positive approach to change and development, including personal development. You have a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset

Pay band 3

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the field of human resources in a unionized environment

Pay band 4

  • Minimum of Four (4) years of related work experience in the field of human resources, labour relations or operations with unionized employees, or two (2) years of post-secondary education from a recognized institution with six (6) years of progressive experience in human resources, including experience in labour/employee relations.
  • Two (2) years of labour experience in a unionized environment is required
  • 4 years of facilitation and mediation skills

Pay band 5

  • Minimum of Five (5) years of related work experience in the field of human resources, labour relations or operations with unionized employees, or two (2) years of post-secondary education from a recognized institution with seven (7) years of progressive experience in human resources, including experience in labour/employee relations.
  • Three (3) years of labour experience in a unionized environment is required
  • 5 years of facilitation and mediation skills

Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. Bilingualism is considered an asset.

What You Will Do

  • Coach, mentor, and support managers to build capacity in the functional areas of Human Resources such as:
    • Employee relations and labour management issues
    • Recruitment, staffing, selection, and on-boarding
    • Performance management, staff development and engagement
    • Health and safety, disability, and attendance management
    • Relationship management; interpretation of terms of employment; etc.
  • Lead or assist in the development of standard procedures and toolkits for managers that will assist them in performing management duties and executing human resource functions as listed above.
  • Lead or assist in the development and consistent application of standard HR policies and practices and ensure communication of such.
  • Educate and advise managers in respect to adherence to federal and provincial government regulations including Occupational Health and Safety, Employment Standards Act, New Brunswick Human Rights Act, Official Languages Act, and Public Service Labour Relations Act.
  • Provide contract interpretation to lead and advise on administration of collective agreements, labour laws and regulations, labour issues, strikes, workforce adjustments, grievances, discipline, investigations etc. as appropriate.
  • Foster a positive labour environment with union representatives and participate in union/management meetings.
  • Assist managers with gap analysis to attain required competency levels, staffing and successful planning. Communicate employee development opportunities to close these gaps.
  • Assist with workplace assessments, respectful workplace complaints and other investigations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of current workplace safety policies and practices to support a culture of safety.
  • Promote and advise on applicable Human Resource and Organizational policies
