Qualifications

Position: Highway Engineer

Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Highway Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in Thunder Bay, part of our Highways & Bridges Business Line. In this role, you will support the Infrastructure team by leading and delivering transportation/road projects for MTO and other clients in Northwestern Ontario, collaborating with Hatch’s global teams on transportation initiatives worldwide.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead and manage delivery teams on transportation projects of varying complexity, size, and scope, including new roads, widening, and rehabilitation projects.
  2. Conduct and oversee preliminary and detailed design drawings for transportation infrastructure projects, including regional and municipal roads, utilities, drainage, earthworks, rail, transit facilities, etc., with comprehensive utility plans.
  3. Ensure quality management and assurance, develop work plans, and provide guidance and mentorship to project teams.
  4. Manage client and stakeholder relationships and contribute to business development.
  5. Develop technical reports, specifications, design calculations, and material quantity estimates.
  6. Manage project budgets and participate in project scoping, proposal development, and costing.
Qualifications
  1. Civil Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
  2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification (PEO).
  3. Minimum 7 years of experience in road/transportation design, with leadership or project management roles.
  4. Experience with road/highway design, including multi-lane roads, urban right-of-ways, traffic staging, and sequencing. MTO design experience is a plus.
  5. Knowledge of road design codes and standards, including TAC, regional, and municipal standards. Utility design standards are an asset.
  6. Strong computer skills, with experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and OpenRoads; RSAP experience is a plus.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
