Irving Shipbuilding Welder, Journeyperson

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Welder, Journeyperson.

Qualifications
  • Education Required: Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational training and Welder Trade Certification (4 Positions SMAW [current ticket], 4 Positions FCAW [current ticket], WHMIS Certificate)
  • Years of Experience Required: 5-8+ years
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
  • Pre-employment physical required
  • Background check by the Company

All successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Work in construction, maintenance/repair, or new fabrication environments
  • Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in all positions
  • Perform Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) in all positions
  • Select proper weld filler material
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding and flame-cutting equipment
  • Operate air arc cutting equipment (carbon arc cutting)
  • Set up SMAW and FCAW equipment for welding
  • Lift, move, or position equipment at work sites
  • Work in shipbuilding, repair, or steel industry environments
Physical Effort and Work Conditions
  • Work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and platforms
  • Stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb
  • Work in confined spaces and inclement weather
  • Support extended hours and overtime as needed
  • Indoor and outdoor work
  • Handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items over 50 lbs.
