Position Overview

This is a developmental opportunity. The incumbent will coordinate multiple work fronts, processes, and contribute to a cross-functional team within their area. As part of the engineering team, the Project Engineer will participate in team meetings, work collaboratively to achieve project objectives, and assist with project requirements as needed.

Work Environment

This position requires on-site work at an assigned project location within the United States. Locations include but are not limited to California, Montana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, North Dakota, Nevada, Colorado, and Texas. Candidates must be willing and able to relocate; remote or fly-in-fly-out arrangements are not available.

Responsibilities

  1. Involvement in operations of our cost control system and analysis of construction costs.
  2. Participate in monthly forecasting of revenue and costs accruals.
  3. Gather data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
  4. Process and estimate change orders and Requests for Information under the guidance of the Project Manager.
  5. Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals, maintaining complete records.
  6. Manage material deliveries, ensuring proper inspection and compliance with contract documents.
  7. Negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
  8. Assist in developing and updating project schedules.
  9. Work closely with field personnel, supporting quality control and assurance.
  10. Represent Barnard on technical matters related to your expertise.
  11. Facilitate and attend technical and progress meetings.
  12. Review progress reports and endorse invoices.
  13. Prepare and review reports and correspondence related to project technical issues.
  14. Maintain regular contact with contractors, consultants, and technical personnel.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to relocate to the project area in the US.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen for work visa purposes.
  • Four-year bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university.
  • Heavy civil construction experience is required.
  • Experience working onsite at active construction sites.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and make timely decisions.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
  • Strong organizational, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical reporting.
