Purpose
  • Support operations by coordinating Safety and Health guidance for all employees across departments.
  • Promote, coordinate, and implement activities to enhance safety and training performance.
  • Serve as a resource for workplace parties and advocate for the Internal Responsibility System (IRS).
Responsibilities
Prevention
  • Oversee safety programs such as the 5 Pt. Safety System and Safety Meetings.
  • Support development and review of job procedures.
  • Monitor IRS functioning and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct audits of health and safety systems and operations, ensuring compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Report safety and health status to management and conduct regular safety meetings.
  • Advise on technical safety & health matters and support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Coordinate with external safety resources and provide statistical reports.
  • Participate in safety meetings and support medical and preventative programs.
Safety Training
  • Educate organization about the IRS and promote its active implementation.
  • Administer induction training for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Support emergency procedures development and maintain underground mine rescue programs.
  • Promote First Aid Training and liaise with emergency response groups.
Training and Education Requirements
  • Valid G Driver's License
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, including underground mine rescue, WHMIS, and Loss Control.
  • Accreditation in U/G Supervisory Common Core.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in underground mining operations.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.
  • Familiarity with Ministry of Colleges and Universities' Common Core programs.
