Purpose

As part of the 3rd Line of Defence, Internal Audit provides enterprise-wide, independent, and objective assurance over the design and operation of the Bank's internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. We are professionals who thrive in challenging environments and work with management to address control weaknesses.

The Audit Manager contributes to the success of the Audit Function, supporting the Audit Department in executing its global mandate. This includes ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives align with the team’s business strategies and objectives, and that all activities comply with regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities
  1. Support the Officer in Charge (OIC) with the execution of assigned audits, including testing, discussions with management, and documentation.
  2. May act as OIC for low to medium complexity audits.
  3. Collaborate with other audit teams as needed.
  4. Plan, execute, and report on audits, understanding the business/process risks, developing risk-based audit approaches, and managing schedules and resources.
  5. Gather audit results, identify root causes and impacts, draft reports, and present findings to management.
  6. Foster a client-focused culture to deepen relationships and leverage Bank-wide systems and knowledge.
  7. Understand the Bank’s risk appetite and culture, supporting audit planning and scope in accordance with approved plans and methodologies.
  8. Maintain compliance with Scotiabank standards and the IIA Code of Ethics.
  9. Stay informed on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry trends; communicate relevant information to senior management.
  10. Maintain stakeholder relationships to facilitate audit activities.
  11. Promote a high-performance and inclusive work environment.
  12. Meet department training requirements.
  13. Ensure testing is appropriate to support audit objectives, providing value-added recommendations.
  14. Conduct data analytics to support audit projects, developing dashboards for continuous monitoring.
  15. Ensure timely completion of workpapers, document control weaknesses with recommendations, and communicate findings promptly.
Education/Experience
  • University or post-secondary education in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Finance) or related experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in retail credit risk management, with knowledge of risk management regulations. Experience with SOX controls (IFRS9) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of operational and regulatory environments relevant to the role.
  • Ability to operate in high ambiguity and rapidly changing environments.
  • Proficiency in Scotiabank methodology, risk-based auditing standards, and practices.
  • Experience with Machine Learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and advanced statistical analysis is a plus.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as PowerBI.
  • Skills in advanced data analytics, credit risk modeling, and tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python, Alteryx.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for collaboration and reporting.
  • People management and coaching skills.
  • Curiosity and a proactive mindset.
  • Spanish language skills are an asset but not required.
