Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Student Affairs Communications, the Digital Media Coordinator (Student Affairs) develops and executes digital media strategies to enhance the student experience and promote programs/services within Student Affairs. Responsibilities include creating content for web, social media, videos, emails, and podcasts, prioritizing data-driven insights.

The role supervises the multicampus Student Life Content Team, supporting content review, editing, and approval processes.

The goal is to support students academically and personally by sharing support information, community stories, and promoting student success, with attention to equity and relevance across campuses.

This position is primarily based at Waterloo, with hybrid flexibility and occasional travel to Brantford and Milton.

Accountabilities

Strategic Communications Planning

  • Designs multi-channel digital content, ensuring timely messaging and best practices.
  • Develops action plans for digital projects, including audience, timeline, tone, and channels.
  • Tracks project progress using management tools.
  • Researches new digital initiatives to promote Student Affairs and student experience.
  • Maintains knowledge of student life cycle and audience needs to inform content.

Multimedia Content Creation

  • Creates or oversees content including web, graphics, videos, social media, and emails.
  • Designs engaging digital media, adhering to brand and accessibility standards.
  • Collects photo/video content from campuses.
  • Storyboard, film, and edit videos for social/web.
  • Maintains web content in partnership with External Relations.
  • Manages Instagram @studentlifeatlaurier, including content calendar, collaboration, and engagement.

Data-Driven Communications

  • Measures communication effectiveness via analytics and feedback.
  • Uses data to refine content and strategies.
  • Reports on metrics regularly.

Supports internal communication, trains student content creators, and collaborates with campus partners.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Manager, Student Affairs Communications

Supervises: 2 co-op students, up to 6 part-time content creators.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, or related.
  • At least 3 years’ recent experience in communications/marketing/student support roles.
  • Proven multimedia content development experience.
  • Knowledge of social media best practices, design, and web content management.
  • Copywriting, editing, video production, and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with Canva Pro and video editing software preferred.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.

Hours of Work

Full-time, approx. 2-year limited-term, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility and occasional evenings/weekends. Hybrid work possible.

Compensation

Level: E; Hourly rate: $41.09 - $43.44, with step progression up to $46.96. Considerations include experience, market rates, and internal equity.
