As the Director, Regulatory & Fiduciary Oversight, you will oversee all aspects related to Scotiatrust's fiduciary responsibilities and regulatory obligations. This includes managing various trust business types, leading a national team supporting Relationship Managers and Associates, and collaborating with control functions and partners to effectively manage risk. You will also develop and implement initiatives to enhance risk management frameworks and facilitate easier business processes. As the expert on estate and trust fiduciary and regulatory issues, you will manage policies and procedures and consult with stakeholders as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and Customer Focus: Drive a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank resources.
  2. Branch Oversight: Provide guidance to branches, lead oversight and risk assessment processes, and manage business policies and controls.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Oversee compliance with AML/ATF, CRA, QI/FATCA/CRS, SEC/CSA regulations, and act as Chief Privacy Officer.
  4. Audit and Risk Management: Lead efforts for internal, external, and regulatory audits, partnering with control functions to embed risk management.
  5. Litigation and Complaints: Manage processes related to complaints and litigation, ensuring regulatory and industry standards are met.
  6. Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expertise on fiduciary and legal matters, support onboarding, initiatives, reporting, and manage complex files.
  7. Risk Culture: Incorporate the bank’s risk appetite into daily activities and decisions.
  8. Operational Excellence: Ensure effective operations and controls to meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF, and conduct risk obligations.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in estate and trust matters, in private practice or trust industry.
  • Law degree and ability to speak/read French preferred.
  • Membership in STEP.
  • Extensive knowledge of trust law, taxation, investments, and custody accounts.
  • Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
  • Experience dealing with regulators, legal counsel, and cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a desire to expand knowledge.
  • Familiarity with FATCA, CRS, QI, and related tax treaties.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including Bank Act, Trust Act, AML/ATF laws, and provincial Trustee Acts.
