Our Building Specialty Services division has a staff complement of over 200 practitioners involved in various aspects related to building envelope and building science, energy and performance modeling including engineers, architects, EITs, and technologists, with a broad range of experience and capabilities. We work on a wide array of projects of varying size, duration and complexity. We work on all types of buildings from new developments, to renewals and upgrades of existing buildings, including heritage buildings.

By combining our knowledge of the principles of building science with our understanding of building envelope components and assemblies, we assist building owners, designers and other stakeholders in developing durable, efficient, and economical solutions to their projects. Your Opportunity

We are actively seeking for a Building Science Co-op Student to join our growing Building Specialty Services team in our Ottawa, ON office for a minimum 4-month commitment, commencing in September 2025.

Your Key Responsibilities

The Building Science Co-op Student will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the development of design documents including the drafting of design drawings and editing of technical specifications.
  • Assisting in the review and evaluation of existing building envelope components as part of assessment and investigation projects.
  • Participation in field verification testing such as window testing, thermography, etc., including the drafting of reports.
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical reports.
  • Assisting in the completion of site visits at active construction sites.
  • Assisting in project administration including formatting and compiling reports, gathering information, managing data files, drafting proposals, and drafting correspondence.
  • Participating in site visits, when required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Have a basic understanding of the construction of buildings, with a focus on the building envelope.
  • Be curious about how building enclosures behave when exposed to exterior and interior environmental loads.
  • Have an ability and interest in working within a multi-disciplinary architectural and engineering team
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and work in a team environment.
  • Be proactive and creative
  • Be a fast learner, with the ability to adapt
  • Be familiar with Building Codes (Part 5 and 9) and related standards (preferred)
  • Willingness to work at heights, preferably with valid “Working at Heights” training
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Education and Experience
  • In progress toward earning a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years of undergraduate coursework (Various disciplines can pursue Building Science Consulting as a career. Past and current team members include graduates with degrees in Civil, Architecture, Structural, and Mechanical Engineering.)
