Job description

City Experiences is seeking an Assistant Restaurant Manager for our City Cruises operation in Toronto.

*Please note, this is a seasonal/contract position*

About the Opportunity:

The Assistant Restaurant Manager will successfully direct and oversee all activities of the dining cabin and restaurant to ensure high-quality food and drinks, hospitable and efficient customer service, and profitable operations. The Assistant Restaurant Manager will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience, will be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and will be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties. Performance will be measured by guest satisfaction scores, departmental tests, management evaluation, and feedback from peers on the City Cruises’ team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Provides amazing hospitality to guests and shipmates as prescribed in RESPECT Service System
  • Rotates as shift manager and ensures adherence to cruise scripts, supervision of staff, quality meal service and entertainment
  • Gathers necessary information from other departments to ensure guest satisfaction (special requests, additional services, special timing, etc.)
  • Assists the Event Coordinator during boarding, greet and walk the guests to their table
  • In the absence of the Event Coordinator, greet and assist the guests with their reservation and show them their table
  • Conducts daily stand-up briefing and communicates to employee all necessary information regarding the cruise (seating charts, special bar packages, boarding procedures)
  • Maintains highest standards of safety for customers and staff
  • Maintains the highest standards of sanitation in accordance with local regulation and corporate guideline
  • Develops and executes programs that improve the level of service and product quality
  • Executes all opening and closing activities which include stocking, replenishing, wiping, sweeping and other duties as required to maintain an appealing, hygienic, healthy and safe environment for staff and guests in their designated work areas. Including the completion of all daily & weekly checklists.
  • Counts money in cash drawers at the beginning of shift (sorts, counts currency and coins) to ensure that amounts are correct and that change amounts are adequate.
  • Responsible for all sales transactions from selling food and beverage items to cash reconciling in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Rotates food and beverage products by practicing first in and first out procedures.
  • Checks I.D. on any guests ordering alcohol who look under 30 years old.

Leadership and Teamwork:

  • Leads by example; maintains highest level of professionalism, integrity, and sound work habits
  • Develops strong teamwork within the crew
  • Assists in training, and development of all restaurant crew members
  • Work with staff on all preparatory work prior to starting and finishing of the event
  • Fill in for server/event crew/bartender when that crew member is not available and provide service to the guest
  • Prepare alcoholic & non- alcoholic requisition form for next cruise/event
  • Arrange services for special events
  • Helps execute incentive programs and engagement of City Cruises Canada employee programs.
  • Maintains good relationship with other departments (marine, sales, and administration)

Administration:

  • Attends all scheduled meetings
  • Assists Restaurant Manager with weekly inventory and ordering product supplies for Harbour Tour boat (Oriole & Showboat)
  • Prepare liquor, wine & beer ordering sheet at least one day before the event
  • Operates all restaurant systems (point of sale, inventory/purchasing system, reservations system)
  • Reconciles onboard cash and credit sales with the point-of-sale system
  • Completes any other duties as assigned by the Director of Food & Beverage or the Food & Beverage Manager
  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years restaurant supervision experience
  • Prefer bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years additional experience. Hospitality or Culinary degree
  • Smart Serve Certificate required
  • Food Handler’s Certificate required
  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays
  • Mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) necessary to interpret reports and budgets
  • Must be able to:
    • Successfully manage front-line restaurant staff
    • Communicate effectively in oral and written form
    • Train, develop and motivate staff
    • Analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to comprehend and communicate job functions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by job responsibility
  • Provide advice/opinion and exercise discretion concerning confidential and sensitive matters
  • Listen effectively, assesses the situation, determine relevant issues, identify solutions and gain consensus
  • Set aside emotional factors and/or validate them in order to discover key/relevant issues
  • Moderate computer skills are essential; will frequently work with Microsoft office products as well as point of sale system and web-based applications
  • Must be able to work all shifts including days, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift. Ability to safely move up to 40 lbs (18 kgs)
  • Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
  • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
