Job description

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive, high quality medical care to patients of Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate ability to provide general medical care activities
  2. Maintain case histories, examination reports and other medical records in the approved format
  3. Assess, diagnose and treat medical problems of SeMRHI patients
  4. Develop and document appropriate plans for the management of problems identified
  5. Promote preventive care and healthy lifestyles for all patient life-cycles
  6. Refer patients to the hospitalist for care as necessary
  7. Maintain courtesy hospital privileges as required
  8. Coordinate services with other center providers, local specialists and community resources
  9. Serve as preceptor for center nurse practitioners as necessary
  10. Establish health care standards and protocols for each medical service and program
  11. Ensure confidentiality of patient information and records
  12. Participate actively in Performance Improvement activities
  13. Maintain complete, up to date and accurate problem oriented medical records
  14. Comply with credentialing and other administrative requirements necessary for meeting regulatory standards
  15. Demonstrate positive personal attributes such as honesty, integrity and professionalism in all aspects of the job
  16. Work to ensure the productivity and effectiveness of clinical staff, in terms of utilization and patient satisfaction
  17. Attend classes, workshops, and seminars as appropriate to maintain clinical competency and stay informed of changes in community health
  18. Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural issues and a positive attitude when dealing with patients, colleagues and resource people from outside the center

Job Requirements:

  1. Graduation from an approved school of Medicine or Osteopathy
  2. Completion of an approved residency program in family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, or obstetrics/gynecology
  3. A valid Mississippi Medical License and unrestricted privileges under the Controlled Substances statutes of the Drug Enforcement Agency
  4. At least 3 years' experience in providing care in a community health or related setting
  5. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association
  6. Must be able to use sound analytical thinking in providing patient care
  7. Must be able to reason in the practice of medicine
  8. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  9. Must be able to deal effectively with patient and staff emergencies
  10. Must continuously listen, visualize and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  11. Must have full range of body motion, frequently sit, squat, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk, stand, kneel and twist
  12. Must have ability to grasp firmly, lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 10 lbs
