Job summary

Messer is seeking a Driver for a hybrid role combining driving responsibilities with Inside Sales support. You will deliver gas products and related hardgoods, maintain records, and provide excellent customer service in a safety-focused environment.

The role requires a Class 3 or DZ license with air brakes, as well as driving experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office. A signing bonus is available, with benefits and ongoing training opportunities.

Qualifications

What you’ll do:

As one of our Drivers, you’ll be driving a well-maintained vehicle while also professionally representing our organization to our customers. This position is for people motivated to drive heavy vehicles (Class 3/DZ License) and provide excellent customer service. Your responsibilities will include:

• Multiple deliveries (requiring loading and unloading of cylinders)/ day (5 or 10 ton truck) of gas products and hardgoods to local customers within the assigned geographical area
• Balancing cylinder load sheets and daily cylinder records
• Some administration duties include the use of handheld technology to process deliveries and reconcile agent consignment inventory balances
• Comply with all government regulations
• Maintaining vehicles as per company vehicle policy, observing safety requirements, and wearing safety equipment and report safety hazards to supervisor

This role is a hybrid role, and you will also be an Inside Sales Representative, you will play a key role in providing excellent customer service daily and doing the following tasks:

• Welcome and advise customers to come to the store and perform related tasks such as order preparation and follow-up
• Provide administrative and technical support to internal clients.
• Provide creative customer service techniques, show an ability to source products and maintain satisfactory inventory levels
• Capable of communicating on multiple levels with external customers with the objective of increasing counter sales through upselling
• Support Branch Manager in obtaining all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), safety goals and an excellent net operating profit
• Precall customer orders
• Responsible for entering invoices into SAP, preparing credit notes, sorting documents, filing, and processing telephone orders
• Actively solicits new sales in store and via outgoing calls
• Maximize counter sales and handle telephone enquiries from customers or prospective customers
• Receive incoming hardgoods shipments from vendors and intercompany warehouses

What it takes:

• Valid Class 3 or DZ license with air brakes
• Minimum of 1 year driving experience with recognized driving school training or 3 years driving experience
• Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent experience
• A clean driving abstract (abstract to be readily available to submit, when asked)
• Ability to handle and lift goods up to 60 lbs.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Comfortable with computers with the Microsoft Office suite
• Industrial sales skills

Assets to have:

• Knowledge of the gas and/or welding industry
• Experience using handheld electronic devices
• WHMIS/TDG certification

*The $3,000 signing bonus will be paid in two installments: $1,500 upon hiring and the remaining $1,500 after six months of employment. If the employee leaves before completing one full year from their date of hire, they will be required to repay the signing bonus upon termination of employment.
