This position offers a starting hourly rate of $27.43. You will be part of a professional team supporting operations at DriveTest Centres across Ontario on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation. Driver Examiners are based at one of our 56 DriveTest Centre locations. Bring your expertise and customer service skills to Serco Canada Inc.

Serco supports the Ministry of Transportation as a prime contractor for their Driver Examiner Services (DES) contract, which supports DriveTest Centre operations, providing customer information and assisting the public through various stages of the driver’s licensing process. Our Driver Examiners engage with customers in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner.

You will work closely with customers and other Serco teams to examine applicants through road tests to assess their driving abilities, including observing and evaluating their handling of vehicles, compliance with traffic laws, and ability to operate safely under stressful situations. You will provide examination results, note areas for improvement, and complete evaluation forms, entering results into our system. Our Regional and Site Managers lead the team of Driver Examiners, ensuring excellence in customer care.

This position requires the ability to Pass Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Fingerprint Criminal Record Check.

Summary/Purpose:
  • Evaluate driving ability of applicants at G2, G, M2, M, and controlled class (ABZ) levels, as qualified.
  • Provide road test grades, license information, and resolve licensing issues.
  • Assist with driver examination services and ensure fair conduct of examinations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver excellent customer service during driver examinations.
  • Respond to licensing inquiries, determine applicant status, and provide test/re-test information.
  • Verify candidate identity verbally.
  • Conduct road tests to assess vehicle handling, compliance, and safety.
  • Communicate results, note errors, and complete assessment forms.
  • Attend travel points for testing and licensing services as needed.
  • Assess riding habits and skills for M2, M, and controlled class tests, including for individuals with disabilities.
  • Follow all regulations, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and perform other related duties.
Qualifications:
  • GED or high school diploma minimum.
  • Fluent in French and English.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and at least four years of driving experience.
  • Valid Class M and/or controlled class license if applicable.
  • No more than four demerit points and three violations during employment.
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Knowledge of DriveTest program, legislation, and policies is preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • At least two years of demonstrated excellent customer service experience.

Physical & Mental Effort:
  • Moderate to high mental and physical activity, approximately 2-4 hours/day.
Working Conditions:

  • Variable hours, including evenings and weekends during peak periods.
  • Participation in training and shadowing required.
