Job description

GFL Environmental is looking for a Truck Driver - Class 1 or 3 to join our team at the Squamish Waste and Recycling Centre!

The Truck Driver - Class 1 or 3 will be responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables on curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport them to post-collection facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Operate residential/recycling collection, side-load and/or rear-load trucks, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems to collect solid waste and recyclables on designated routes.
  2. Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the rear or side of the waste collection vehicle.
  3. Operate equipment on the truck to compact trash into the vehicle.
  4. Operate the truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to prevent mechanical failures.
  5. Maintain route quality standards as set by management.
  6. Keep the vehicle clean, both interior and exterior.
  7. Exhibit a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance at all times, especially when meeting customers or the public in uniform.
  8. Maintain accurate records of services performed.
  9. May be required to work overtime.
Requirements:
  • Possess a valid Class 1 or Class 3 Commercial Driver's License.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate equipment.
  • Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance for safe operation.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment, maneuver into tight spaces, and use mirrors effectively.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repeatedly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Sitting may be required up to 75% of the time due to driving responsibilities.
