Job description

Our Chalk River location is looking for casual part-time Drivers to support our Transportation and Fleet Department. Can you see yourself in a role where you will be responsible for the safe operation and transportation of motor vehicles, including but not limited to: pickup trucks, cube vans, tractor-trailers, flatbed trucks, snow plows, belly plows, and roll-off trucks? What will you be doing!

  • Picking up material and equipment, including radioactive materials, from pre-arranged locations, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and complete; ensuring that the load is safely fastened; delivering the load to a pre-arranged destination to ensure the timely delivery of goods safely in compliance with regulations.
  • Picking up personnel and/or visitors from a pre-arranged location and transporting them to their destination in a safe, timely and courteous manner.
  • Completing vehicle circle checks when taking possession of a vehicle and reporting any major maintenance issues for the safe operation of the vehicle.
  • Operating other vehicles, such as snow plows, flatbed trucks, belly plows, tandems, 4-ton trucks, roll-off trucks, and hoists, to assist tradespeople and job site crews, and facilitating workflow.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the vehicles used to uphold the established corporate image.
  • Participating in the orientation of new drivers to ensure consistent work methods.
  • Participating in the Emergency Response Team and assisting in the “stay-in” or evacuation of the area, on or off-site, in the event of an emergency.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and CNL regulations, and providing a safe and efficient working environment. Attending monthly safety meetings and immediately reporting any safety concerns and/or infractions. Applying CNL’s Event Free Tools procedure throughout the execution of assigned work and model this behaviour and knowledge to others.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Secondary school graduation diploma.
  • Experience
    • Two years' experience in the operation of “A” class motor vehicles.
    • ACZ class driver’s license with a clean driving record (Driver abstract check every six months).
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Familiar with the operation and safety features of a variety of equipment such as snow ploughs, hoists, flat bed and drop deck trailers.
    • Transportation of Dangerous Goods – Class 7 certification.
    • Knowledge of the Ministry of Transportation regulations.
    • Mechanical skills to complete circle checks of vehicles and fix minor defects.
    • Familiarity with cargo securement.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
