Job summary

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is seeking a casual Driver to provide door-to-door transportation for clients, with shifts in evenings, weekends, and early mornings. The role requires flexibility, safety-first driving, and the ability to work with short notice as needed.

Applicants must hold valid insurance, a clean driver record, and be legally eligible to work in Canada. English fluency is required; French is an asset. Training and on-call duties are part of this role.

Qualifications

  • Valid personal automobile insurance (min $2,000,000 liability).
  • Driver must have a clean Ministry of Transportation driving record.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and stay flexible in city traffic.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Drive agency vehicle to transport clients as directed.
  • Notify clients prior to pickup to confirm time.
  • Ensure clients are safely seated with seat belts buckled.
  • Escort clients door-to-door to appointments; assist as needed.
  • Inspect vehicle and report deficiencies; take for maintenance when required.
  • Complete driver training and participate in evaluations.
  • Refuel and perform basic vehicle checks.
  • Submit accurate time sheets and attend training sessions.

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health, wellness, safety, and inclusion across far west Ottawa. Since 1986, WOCRC has supported individuals and families through a wide range of community, social, and health services designed to strengthen and empower the communities we serve.

Our programs support children, youth, families, newcomers, seniors, and individuals experiencing crisis or social isolation through counselling, housing and violence against women services, community development initiatives, health promotion, and family support programming.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Drivers provide door-to-door, individualized service to meet client needs. They are responsible for driving clients to and from their appointments (medical, personal, or event etc.) in a safe manner.

This is a casual, flexible position with shifts available during evenings, weekends, and early mornings. Hours are offered on an on-call basis and may vary depending on operational needs. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule and be willing to accept shifts with short notice when required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provide Direct Service to clients
  • Drive agency vehicle to transport clients as directed by their immediate contact at the Centre
  • Contact clients prior to pick up to confirm transportation time
  • Ensure that clients are safely in their seats with seat belts buckled
  • Escort (arm for support, no lifting or transfers) door-to-door clients to appointments
  • Undertake inspection of the vehicle and report deficiencies to their immediate contact at the Centre (when required, take the van for maintenance)
  • Driver training and evaluations as directed
  • Gasoline fill up and oil check as required
  • Submit time sheets to immediate contact at the Centre
  • Must attend training sessions as designated by the WOCRC
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid personal automobile insurance (minimum $2,000,000 liability)
  • (NOTE: valid personal insurance is an essential requirement; applicants without insurance will not be accepted)
  • Clean Ministry of Transportation driver record (driver abstract required)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and exhibit flexibility
  • Reliable and able to deal with city traffic in a relaxed but efficient manner
  • Must be able to work legally in Canada.

Working Conditions:

The nature of the job requires the incumbent to be physically able to assist clients, (e.g. assisting clients into and out of vehicles, carrying groceries, folding and lifting assistive devices etc.)

Availability

  • Must be available to work early mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to work with 24 hour notice

Language

  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written;
  • Ability to communicate fluently in French, is an asset;
  • Additional language abilities an asset.
