Job summary

Cando is seeking a Boom Truck Operator to operate railway picker trucks within the Infrastructure Renewal Department, with safety as a top priority and strict adherence to CROR and COR regulations.

The role involves operating/maintaining equipment on track, building customer relationships, meeting production quotas, loading and securing gear, and mentoring others in safe operation. Travel away from Brandon is required.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with car air brake endorsement an asset.
• Must pass drug and alcohol screening.
• Proven teamwork and leadership abilities.
• Safety-focused with ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
• Experience with field maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Willing to adapt to new technologies and training.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains railway picker truck on track; may operate on main line when licensed.
• Builds relationships with customers; communicates by phone, radio, or in person.
• Meets production quotas set by the customer.
• Loads, transports, and secures equipment for job sites.
• Maintains journals, maintenance documents, and daily activity reports.
• Trains and mentors other employees on operation and safety requirements.
• Supports safety and regulatory compliance in all tasks.

Job Description

Boom Truck Operator are responsible for the operation of Cando's boom trucks. Working for the Infrastructure Renewal Department, the Boom Truck Operator ensures safety is a high priority at all times and procedures are respected and followed as per CROR and COR regulations.

• Operates and maintains railway picker truck on track including cutting rail and loading product into rail gondola cars; when licensed, operates unit on main line track and on road
• Builds relationships with the customer; interfaces with the customer via phone, radio, or in person
• Maintains production quotas set by the customer
• Loads the equipment and secures for transport
• Purchases supplies necessary to maintain the equipment and the safety environment
• Maintains necessary journals or maintenance documents as required by the Department; completes daily paperwork such as car loading, billing information, PO's, and transmission of all daily activities as pertinent to track daily costing
• Transports the team to and from various locations
• Trains and mentors other employees on the operation and maintenance requirements of the picker truck
• Guides employees in the safe operations of equipment and the rules and regulations required to perform the operations of the Department

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

• Holds and obtains a valid driver?s license (car air brake endorsement an asset); holds or working toward a Class 1 driver's license; clean Driver's Abstract (last three years)
• Ability to pass and maintain clear drug & alcohol
• Demonstrated team building skills including interpersonal, communication, and problem solving as well as show strong leadership skills
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to be safe on track and to comprehend oral direction
• Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
• Ability to understand, record, and apply oral and written instructions; document work activities, and prepare required reports or work orders
• Mechanical ability is preferred, with the capability of performing troubleshooting and maintenance in the field
• A base knowledge of costing and computers is an asset
• Willingness to adapt to new technological changes and improvements and participate in training and self-development programs
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time (typically 10 days on, 4 days off) away from the home base of Brandon; work in remote locations in all weather conditions

Education & Experience

• Minimum one year operating a Boom Truck required
• Possess or able to secure Canadian Rail Operating Rules, eRailsafe, and First Aid/CPR certifications
