Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a visionary Drinking Water Treatment Manager to lead our municipal drinking water consulting team in the GTA. This player‑coach role requires a technical expert who excels at high‑level process design and project delivery while strategically growing our market share in the GTA.

Success Criteria
  • Technical Excellence: Serve as a senior reviewer, ensuring all plant designs and project deliverables meet stringent QA/QC and safety standards within profitability goals.
  • Team Leadership: Cultivate a culture of technical curiosity, ownership, and professional growth while maintaining high retention through active mentorship.
  • Strategic Growth: Expand AECOM’s foothold as one of the strongest drinking water teams in the GTA by securing major treatment plant upgrades, advanced technology research studies, and process development.
Responsibilities
  • Team Growth: Develop a well‑balanced team aligned with the strategic plan, collaborating with AECOM GTA Management to identify key recruits that will fuel growth and support succession planning.
  • Effective Operations Management: Oversee team dynamics, staff management, and the financial health of the drinking water portfolio.
  • Business Development: Collaborate with capture managers on critical pursuits, lead technical proposals and capture strategies, while adhering to budget allocations.
  • Client Relationships: Foster strong relationships with key GTA clients such as City of Toronto and regional municipalities.
  • Project Delivery: Lead the execution of complex multi‑disciplinary projects from design through construction, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act and regulatory design guidelines.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor group performance indicators through insightful reports to track sales growth, cost management, and achievement of win and booking targets.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide senior‑level guidance on drinking water treatment processes, including conventional treatment, membrane filtration, ozone/UV disinfection, chemical feed systems, and residual management.
  • Internal Liaison: Represent the local market sector within the national AECOM network, liaising with internal stakeholders for reporting and business functions.
  • Industry Representation: Represent AECOM at industry conferences (e.g., OWWA, AWWA, CWN) and coordinate team participation.
  • Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of 10, including project managers and process engineers, fostering technical excellence and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in the design and construction of municipal drinking water treatment plants.
  • Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or transferable within 6 months.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing technical teams and successful project delivery, with strategic vision across multi‑million dollar projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: 15+ years of progressive experience in the design and construction of municipal drinking water treatment plants.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing technical teams and successful project delivery, with strategic vision across multi‑million dollar projects.
  • Advanced Degree: Master’s or PhD in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental engineering is considered an asset.
  • Local Expertise: Strong existing relationships with GTA clients and the drinking water industry, including participation/activity in associations.
  • Project Management: Progressive experience as a Project Manager in municipal drinking water engineering design and construction. PMP certification is considered an asset.
Compensation

CAD 150,000 – CAD 200,000 yearly.
