Job summary

Pason is seeking a Drilling Optimization Engineer in Calgary to analyze client drilling data, deliver KPI insights, and support product improvements across drilling automation. You will work with Account Managers, R&D, and clients to drive continuous efficiency gains in drilling operations.

Key responsibilities include monitoring trials, creating visualizations and reports, and presenting findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience in the Oil & Gas industry is required.
• Experience with drilling mechanics and fluids is preferred.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to manage concurrent projects.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
• Self-starter who works well independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

• Travel to client locations for project prep, training, and presentations (~10% outside Calgary).

The Role

The Drilling Optimization Engineer will work with a diverse set of stakeholders at Pason, including Account Managers, R&D, product managers, and our clients to help drive continuous improvement in their drilling operations. This will be done by analyzing our clients' drilling data, providing technical recommendations/insights, and creating Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and similar reports to better inform end-users in how they utilize our products. The individual will be exposed to a wide array of Pason products and end-users, with heavy emphasis Pason’s drilling automation and optimization applications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor key product trials, including drilling automation and mud management, and analyze drilling data to develop KPIs, visualizations, reports, and presentations that identify opportunities to improve drilling efficiency and product performance.


• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support product development and improvements based on customer needs and operational insights.


• Support internal teams in troubleshooting customer issues related to Pason’s drilling automation and KPI products.


• Travel to client locations (office, rig, and virtual) for project preparation, product training, and performance presentations may be required. Approximately 10% of travel outside Calgary is expected.


• Support the Account Management team by analyzing customer data and identifying opportunities to demonstrate product value and grow product-line revenue.

Qualifications

• Understanding of fundamental drilling practices and industry vernacular via prior field and office experience.


• Experience with drilling mechanics and drilling fluids principles.


• Strong organization and time management skills required to prioritize tasks and deadlines related to concurrent projects will be the norm.


• Analytical and detail-oriented with strong critical-thinking skills and a high degree of accuracy in analyses, reports, and presentations.


• Ability to clearly communicate and present technical information to diverse internal and external audiences in a professional manner.


• Self-starter, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within team settings.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry

• Is licensed as a EIT or P.Eng with APEGA, or has the ability to obtain.


• Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel


• Experience in using BI Software tools (ie. Spotfire, PowerBI, etc.)


• Exposure to JIRA, Confluence, Splunk, Python and Enverus DrillingInfo are a plus


• Sales, marketing, customer service, and related experience would be an asset

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical or related Engineering or related field from an accredited University.
