Boart Longyear Ltd. in Canada is hiring Sonic Drillers across northern Alberta sites. The role provides semi-skilled labour in a variety of drilling operations, focusing on sonic and geotechnical drilling.

You will operate and support drilling teams, train new drillers, and ensure safety and equipment alignment on site. The wage is CAD 39.00–44.50 per hour with overtime and travel perks.

Qualifications

• Sonic drilling experience in field operations.
• Geotechnical drilling experience preferred.
• Safety-conscious with strict adherence to procedures.
• Ability to perform manual labour and use site equipment.
• Driver's license (Class 5 or higher) and clean record.

Responsibilities

• Provides semi-skilled labour across drilling operations safely, ensuring equipment life and proper drill alignment.
• May train new drillers in a safe environment and perform surveys as required by the client.
• This position is for Sonic Drillers, or: Geotechnical drillers looking to move to train on sonic drills; Sonic drillers in training aiming to progress to lead driller.

Hourly Wage: $39.00-$44.50/hr

This posting is for our various sites across northern Alberta including CNRL, Suncor, Syncrude, Kearl, and Fission.

Job Responsibilities

Provides semi-skilled labour intensive assistance across a wide spectrum of drilling operations in an efficient and safe manner. Responsible for general condition and obtaining optimum life out of all site equipment and tools, location of the collar of the hole, ensuring correct alignment with front and back sites, offsets, depth and setting of the drill at the correct angle. May be responsible for the training of new drillers in a safe environment. Performs surveys according to client.

This position is for Sonic Drillers, or:

• Geotechnical drillers looking to move to train on sonic drills
• Sonic drillers in training looking to progress to lead driller

Position requirements

• Driller or driller’s helper experience related to sonic or geotechnical drilling Ability to work in mining and oil & gas environments including the ability to pass pre-access, post incident, and annual drug and alcohol screening
• Class 5 or better drivers license with reasonable drivers abstract (commercial DL is an asset) Willingness to work with a wide variety of equipment
• Willingness to work long hours outdoors in all conditions Willingness to work hard, and travel for work
• Willingness to perform both shop based and field based work
• Willing to learn new advanced geotechnical testing techniques involving sophisticated electronic testing equipment
• Positive attitude in the work place
