Saturn Oil & Gas Inc. is seeking a 16-month Drilling Engineer Co-op Student based in Calgary, Alberta, starting May 2027.

The student will work under the Drilling Engineering Manager, assisting with drilling program prep, cost estimates, and regulatory submissions while learning from the technical team. The role emphasizes collaboration with drilling engineers, field crews, and service providers, plus contributing to BI dashboards and data tracking to improve efficiency and cost control.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or Civil engineering and eligible for Coop/Internship programs.
  • Student must be able to commit to a 16-month term starting May 2027.
  • If applicable, must be willing to relocate to Calgary for the duration of the term.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience with Power BI is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with drilling program preparation, including offset well reviews, drilling designs, cost estimates, and planning inputs.
  • Review drilling, completions, geology, and production information to support well planning and execution decisions.
  • Track daily drilling operations and cost performance; document lessons learned.
  • Support cost estimates, AFEs, lookbacks, and post-well reviews to identify efficiencies.
  • Assist with regulatory submissions, licenses, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineers, field supervisors, consultants, and service providers for safe field execution.
  • Build and maintain drilling trackers and dashboards (Excel/Power BI).
  • Participate in internal meetings, pre-spud planning discussions, and post-job reviews.

Saturn has an opportunity for a 16-month Drilling Engineer Co-op Student based in the Calgary, Alberta office beginning in May 2027. Reporting to the Manager, Drilling Engineering, the Student will collaborate with the technical teams as a support on operational and engineering matters.

Some specific duties, and responsibilities of the Engineering Student include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with drilling program preparation, including offset well reviews, drilling designs, cost estimates, and operational planning inputs
  • Review drilling, completions, geology, and production information to support well planning, execution decisions, and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Track daily drilling operations, including drilling progress, key performance indicators, non-productive time, lessons learned, and cost performance
  • Support preparation of drilling cost estimates, AFEs, lookbacks, and post-well reviews to identify efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Assist with drilling-related regulatory submissions, licenses, and supporting documentation as required
  • Work with drilling engineers, field supervisors, consultants, and service providers to coordinate information and support safe, efficient field execution
  • Build and maintain drilling trackers, databases, and business intelligence tools such as Excel or Power BI dashboards
  • Participate in internal drilling meetings, pre-spud planning discussions, and post-job reviews, where applicable
  • Support the drilling engineering team with technical, operational, and ad hoc requests as required.

Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program, pursuing an undergrad degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or Civil and eligible for Coop/Internship programs
  • Student must be able to commit to the full 16-month term, starting in May 2027
  • If applicable, the student must be willing to relocate to Calgary for the duration of the term
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in PowerBi would be considered an asset.
