Job summary

Qualus Corporation in Canada seeks a Drafter Technician I to join the Grid Engineering Canada drafting team in Vancouver. You will gain exposure to transmission, distribution, substations, and renewables while developing CAD drafting skills under senior staff.

You will create and revise 2D/3D drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related software, maintain files, and ensure compliance with drafting standards, collaborating with engineers and designers to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in CAD-related technology or drafting from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • 0–2 years of drafting experience, preferably in utility, industrial, infrastructure, or engineering projects.
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and document control practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate deliverables.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; can manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; work well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and standards.
  • Knowledge of Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, Raster Design or AutoTURN is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise engineering drawings under supervision using markups and direction from Engineers and Designers.
  • Prepare drafting deliverables: 2D/3D layouts, sections, elevations, BOMs, schedules, and distribution drawings.
  • Incorporate design markups into drawing packages using CAD software.
  • Maintain drawing files, project records, and document management systems.
  • Update design information within drawings and project databases.
  • Perform basic quality checks for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project team members to ensure timely delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and drafting standards in all activities.
  • Support project delivery within schedules and budgets.

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualusin our Grid Engineering Canada business. We are seeking a Drafter Technician I to join our well-established drafting team. This role offers long-term workload stability, exposure to a diverse portfolio of transmission, distribution, substation, and renewable energy projects, and the opportunity to develop your technical capabilities within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

You will support Transmission, Distribution & Generation projects ranging, assisting with the preparation and maintenance of engineering drawings under the guidance of experienced drafting professionals. This position provides hands‑on exposure to transmission lines, substations, and distribution system projects while developing foundational skills in CAD drafting, utility design standards, and engineering drawing production.

Responsibilities
  • Create and revise engineering drawings and diagrams under the direct supervision of senior drafting staff using markups and design direction provided by Engineers and Designers
  • Prepare drafting deliverables including 2D and 3D general arrangements, sections, elevations, bills of materials, cable, duct and bolt schedules, electrical room layouts, equipment layouts, grounding layouts, panel layouts, single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring drawings, and overhead, crossing, and underground distribution drawings
  • Incorporate design markups and revisions into drawing packages using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Civil 3D and other approved CAD software
  • Maintain drawing files, project records, and document management systems in accordance with company procedures
  • Retrieve, enter, and update design information within drawings and project databases
  • Perform basic quality checks to verify drawing accuracy, completeness, and compliance with drafting standards
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other project team members to ensure accurate and timely delivery of design documents
  • Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Follow established safety, quality, and drafting standards in all work activities
  • Support project delivery by completing assigned tasks within established schedules and budgets
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology, Drafting Technology, Engineering Design & Drafting Technology, or a related discipline from a recognized post‑secondary institution
  • 0–2 years of drafting experience, preferably supporting utility, industrial, infrastructure, or engineering projects
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, drafting principles, and document control practices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality deliverables
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies, processes, and industry standards
  • Knowledge with Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, Raster Design, AutoTURN, or other engineering design software is considered an asset
