Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Donor Financial Reporting Officer will oversee financial donor reporting and compliance related to gift agreements. They will also assist with other related tasks namely related to the donation of securities to the University.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare complex and diverse financial reports for donors on the value or spending of their philanthropic contributions. Work with various information systems to extract and reconcile information.

  • Review, manage and report on McGill’s financial obligations related to gift agreements and liaise with parties across the University to ensure that related accounting entries are performed when needed.

  • Investigate gift compliance issues and facilitate their resolution with other parties as needed.

  • Perform ad hoc financial modeling to support major gift financing.

  • Provide information to Gift Agreement Officers in relation to financial data pertaining to philanthropic gifts. Validate accuracy in proposed budgets and/or financial information contained in MOAs.

  • Review, analyze, and support the clearance process for donation of securities to the University. Act as liaison between donors, brokers and the University as it relates to the donation of public shares and mutual funds.

  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within portfolio, including the implementation, evaluation and development of processes, procedures and workflows, to enhance the ability to produce high-quality donor financial reports.

  • Perform other financial-related duties across Advancement Operations as required.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Proven experience in a related financial function, with preference for a philanthropic setting. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written.

  • Proven ability to act with diplomacy, tact and diligence with internal or external clients.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities when high demand for documentation and/or reports or other information.

  • Proven ability to work quickly under tight deadlines and with quick turnaround times, while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a complex, changing, fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.

  • Proven ability to communicate in French and English, spoken and written.
