Overview

Documentation & Technical Writing Manager | Canada | Remote

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source company with a global user base and a focus on scalable observability tooling. We serve developers and organizations worldwide, including 3,000+ companies such as Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay, with the Grafana LGTM Stack (Grafana Cloud or Grafana Enterprise Stack) for metrics, logs, and traces.

We’re scaling fast and value an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and meaningful work. Our team thrives on transparency, autonomy, and trust.

You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to apply for a career-defining opportunity.

The Opportunity

Documentation is a critical and widely used resource for Grafana users. As a Documentation and Technical Writing Manager, you will steer the direction and enhancement of our documentation. You will manage a team of Technical Writers who develop documentation for developer audiences, collaborate with engineering and other internal/external groups to define deliverables, priorities, and processes, contribute to writing and editing, and drive process improvements.

You will help manage documentation for fast-growing open source and commercial products, own improvements to the documentation site, and work across the organization to identify needs, requests, and prioritization. You will foster collaboration across teams to deliver content that helps users learn and adopt Grafana products quickly.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Understand gaps in current documentation and how to organize and build documentation at scale
  • Establish best practices within the technical writing team to meet documentation needs across projects and products
  • Manage a team of technical writers
  • Collaborate with the technical writing management team and other stakeholders to support a content strategy across content types, including blogs and video
  • Create opinionated content that helps users succeed with our products using our technical documentation
  • Support a transparent project management process so internal stakeholders can track significant documentation updates
  • Promote an outcomes-focused approach and ensure work-life balance by balancing assignments, managing priorities, and avoiding over-resourcing

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Experience leading and writing excellent developer documentation in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Experience interacting with engineering and other groups to define deliverables, priorities, and processes
  • Player/coach mentality to engage with an international team
  • Ability to quickly understand organizational needs and develop plans to help technical writers prioritize high-priority feature release work with documentation, usability, and process improvements
  • Experience managing remotely across global time zones
  • Experience as a technical writer working on developer documentation
  • Experience working with the open source community
  • Experience building relationships and advocating for the technical writing discipline with internal stakeholders
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with docs-as-code, Markdown, Git, GitHub, and project management tools
