Job summary

Vention, based in North America and Europe, seeks a Technical Writer to craft hardware and software documentation for its AI‑powered factory platform. You will partner with engineers and product managers to capture technical details and shape clear, user‑friendly content across product lines.

You’ll build and maintain guides, API references, and knowledge-base content, ensuring consistency with style guides while meeting launch timelines. A hybrid work model and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, or a related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience in an industrial/automation environment).
  • Experience translating complex technical concepts into clear, structured documentation for diverse audiences.
  • Comfortable with working directly with engineers and product managers to extract and validate technical details.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects across product lines and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English; maintain a consistent tone across high content volumes.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and strong time management.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain hardware documentation including assembly instructions and wiring diagrams.
  • Write and maintain software documentation including user guides, API references, and release notes.
  • Develop knowledge base content to reduce support tickets and improve self-service.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering to gather requirements and translate them into clear docs.
  • Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, and style guides for consistency.
  • Audit and update documentation to align with product launches and lifecycle changes.
  • Create internal references (safety/certification docs) to support compliance and certification.
  • Incorporate diagrams, screenshots, and video into documentation with UX/engineering.
  • Collect feedback from customers, sales, and support to improve coverage.
  • Support product launches by aligning docs with go-to-market timelines.
  • Manage content pipeline across product lines and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with User Education & Community Lead on user-centric docs.

What You’ll Do
  • Write and maintain hardware documentation, including assembly instructions, integration guides, wiring diagrams references, and product specification sheets
  • Write and maintain software documentation, including MachineLogic user guides, API references, release notes, and MachineBuilder how-tos
  • Develop and curate customer-facing knowledge base and help center content to reduce support ticket volume and improve self-serve resolution
  • Partner with Product Line Managers and Engineering teams to gather technical requirements and translate them into clear, well-structured documentation
  • Establish and maintain documentation standards, style guides, and templates to ensure consistency across product lines
  • Audit and update existing documentation to keep pace with new product launches, feature updates, and end-of-life transitions
  • Create and maintain internal technical references and structure (e.g., safety and certification documentation, validation audit trails) in support of compliance and certification processes
  • Work with UX/design and engineering to incorporate diagrams, screenshots, and video content into documentation
  • Collect and act on feedback from customers, sales, application engineers, and support teams to continuously improve documentation quality and coverage
  • Support product launches by ensuring documentation is ready and aligned with go‑to‑market timelines
  • Manage the documentation content pipeline, prioritizing work across multiple product lines and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with our User Education & Community Lead to develop user centric documentation
What You Bring To The Table
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, or a related field (or equivalent hands‑on experience in an industrial/automation environment)
    • Experience translating complex technical concepts (mechanical, electrical, or software) into clear, structured documentation for diverse audiences — whether that experience was gained as a technical writer, engineer, or automation technician
    • Comfortable working directly with engineers and product managers to extract and validate technical details
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously across different product lines and stakeholders
    • Excellent written communication skills in English; able to maintain a consistent tone and style across a high volume of content
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and strong time management
Nice to Have
  • Comfortable with AI/LLM tools (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT) and willing to build skills to speed up writing, editing, and research as part of the documentation process
  • Experience with API documentation and developer-facing content
  • Familiarity with documentation tools and platforms (e.g. Confluence, Doc360, GitBook, or similar) is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with diagramming, screen capture, or video tools (e.g. Figma, Snagit, Camtasia)
