Job description
Overview

Manitoulin Transport has the most extensive transportation network in North America, providing dependable on-time delivery and faster transit times. With 60 years of experience, Manitoulin has developed transportation knowledge trusted by clients in various industries.

Responsibilities
  • Unloads freight from inbound trailers and loads outbound trailers using the handheld scanner, as well as staging overflow freight for pickup by linehaul drivers at night as required
  • Distributes freight to local P&D drivers
  • Marks materials with identifying information
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed on handheld device
  • Counts and weighs items to ensure conformance to the shipper\'s bill of lading
  • Starts heaters on trailers, applies proper placards to trailers as required
  • Arranges freight in a specified sequence for maximum usage of trailer space
  • Operates a forklift to transport stored items from the dock warehouse to the trailer
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of the warehouse by sweeping floors and properly storing dunnage
  • Typical hours are 11:00–20:00; split shift on Monday mornings to unload LTL (5:00 AM start typical)
  • Uses the company pickup truck to make small rush deliveries as required
  • Uses computer systems for end-of-day labels and handling of drivers
  • Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
  • WHMIS/Dangerous Goods Certificate/Forklift certificate (these items are covered with in-house training programs)
  • Developed problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making and judgment skills
  • Able to lift 50 lbs, sometimes repetitively
  • Ability to multitask and manage various tasks successfully
  • Ability to operate internal computer systems and handheld scanning devices
  • Dependable and able to work in a dock environment safely and efficiently while meeting timelines for departures
  • Knowledge of the AS400 system would be an asset
  • Willing to train the right applicant
  • Have own personal transportation to and from work with a clean driving record
  • Note: This reflects the starting range for this position. The actual wage will be determined by the person\'s qualifications.
