Teacher - Mental Health Therapist / School Counselor

Probationary : August 25 2025 - June 25 2026

Location Dave McNeilly Public School

FTE 1.0 (may be combined with other teaching duties)

Start Date August 25 2025

Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Master of Psychology Social Work or Counselling with advanced practice in the assessment and treatment of mental emotional and behavioural disorders (or a significant completion of this program).
  • The successful candidate will have specific knowledge and training in school counselling and be able to support regular classroom teachers with specialized teaching strategies in regards to supporting mental health.
  • Providing training and support to teachers for students for student social and emotional development anxiety and instructional approaches to build student resilience and independence is needed.
  • Deliver preventative best-practice interventions and related psycho-social development programs as approved by the Division.
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to the provision counselling services and learning supports
  • Experience with making referrals for therapeutic support and outside agencies who support students and families is an asset.
  • Track caseload data and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services learning supports and student responses to interventions
  • Comply with provincial regulations and Division policies with respect to records management
