Job summary

West Fraser Grande Prairie Division is seeking a Controller to join the Mill Management Team. Reporting to the General Manager, you will oversee monthly and quarterly closes, forecasts, cost reporting, and internal controls in a manufacturing setting.

This role requires a 4-year degree in Business/Accounting/Finance, CPA preferred, 3+ years of experience, and proficiency with Oracle/JD Edwards and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation or working towards one preferred
  • 3+ years of related work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Detail oriented with unrelenting accuracy and ability to prioritize critical tasks to meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and build relationships at all levels
  • Experience with Oracle & JD Edwards; proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Sarbanes-Oxley controls experience is a key asset

Responsibilities

  • Close monthly and quarterly financials for financial and non-financial metrics.
  • Prepare mill financial forecasts (monthly, quarterly reforecasts, and annual plans).
  • Provide weekly cost reporting to support Mill Margin Improvement Initiatives.
  • Support Capital Projects through cost tracking and analysis vs budget.
  • Oversee inventory control and analysis.
  • Ad hoc analysis for Mill Management and Corporate Finance.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls in collaboration with Mill GM.
  • Support SOX and internal control testing as required.
  • Assist site procurement to meet spend forecasting and vendor queries.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller is a critical part of the Mill Management Team.

You’ll Do:
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of monthly and quarterly financial close & analysis for both financial and non-financial metrics including monthly & quarterly reconciliations.

  • Support the site procurement through purchase order effectiveness to meet spend forecasting & control, vendor queries and issue resolution
You have:
  • Ideal candidate will have 4-year degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation or working towards one is preferred
  • 3+ years of related work experience is required, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Detail oriented with unrelenting accuracy and ability to prioritize critical tasks to meet various deadlines
  • A 'self-starter' driven for results, possessing ability to work independently and forge relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Experience with Oracle & JD Edwards financial systems is preferred, but must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Sarbanes Oxley controls experience is considered a key asset

Your Workplace Location:

West Fraser Grande Prairie Division is located about 10 minutes south of the city.

Although our facility operates 24 / 7 / 365, this position has a schedule that is primarily Monday to Friday, 40 hours weekly working in an office environment.

Grande Prairie, Alberta has a growing population of over 70 000 and is less than 5 hours northwest of Edmonton in the "Peace Country Region".
